1) The Richard Bush Interview
Interview conducted on the
28th September 1998
by Steve Jones.

When did you first get into emulation?
At University (it was very tempting to load netscape instead of doing any work...) :).
At the time, Node99 was the emulation site, and snes emulation was just getting going
(no sound, only just playable and roms were very hard to find...).

What emulators do you use on a regular basis and what's your favorite (excluding your own)?
ZSnes (for rpg's mainly), NeoRage (for Puzzle de Pon mainly), occasionally also Nesticle and Genecyst...
Also, I use SIDPlay a lot (which I consider an emulator...) :).

And what game(s) do you spend most time playing?
I spent about 3 hours playing LadyStalker on zsnes (stuck on it now...). That's the only game I've played seriously recently...

What system/game would you like to see emulated in the near future, and do you have any plans to emulate it yourself?
I don't have any long term plans, and I'm trying to stick to Taito hardware for now...
There are some Taito systems that I'm looking at (Chase HQ and Night Striker (unnamed system)
and Syvalion, which is on hardware called 'H-System'...).

What are your future development plans for Raine?
Continue to tidy it up, sort out sound (YM2610 especially, which is what 80% of the games in raine are using).
Speed up F3-System (anyone want to help and write a fast 68020 core?...). Maybe look for someone to help with the games, there's more Taito games than I imagined!

You wrote the Retrocade platform extensions for Super Space Invaders, Zero Zone and Snow Bros. What extensions will you be working on next?
Superman, and probably Rodland (I think Rodland is the sort of game the Retrocade team like, which is a good reason to do it :)...).

I'm sure you get a lot of praise for Raine but do you get much hate mail. If so, what's the most common cause for complaint?
I don't get any real hate mail at the moment :). I get 'request' mail though, which is mostly about sound emulation... It's politely worded, so it can't be considered hate mail :). Raine is free and you get what you pay for...

Recently the Neorage team said they would halt any new releases of their software because of the lack of respect for their work. Is there anything that would cause you to halt work on Raine? (hate mail, hacking your code, etc...)
I can think of quite a few things that would put me off working on raine, but I won't mention them, someone might want to try them out on me... :(. Why don't the hackers make their own NeoGeo emulator instead of hacking NeoRage? Because they are too lazy and can't code as well as the NeoRage team...

Erm, that's it. Thank's for your time Richard.
Thanks for considering me, nice questions :).
